Burnley's Tattoo & Beauty Studio Since 2015

ABOUT US

Wayne Porter opened Acherontia on Hall Street in 2015 with one fairly simple idea: build a studio where the art always comes first and the people always feel welcome.

Ten years on, the studio has grown, the team has expanded, and a beauty studio has joined the mix. The idea hasn’t changed.

The name

Acherontia takes its name from two places at once. In Greek mythology, the Acheron was known as the river of woe, one of the five rivers of the underworld, the boundary between the living and the dead. In the natural world, Acherontia is the scientific name for the Death’s Head Hawk Moth, instantly recognisable by the skull-shaped marking on its back.

A river that carries souls to the other side. A moth that wears death on its body. Both have been symbols of transformation, mystery, and the beauty that exists at the edge of things for centuries.

It felt like the right name for a tattoo studio.

The studio

We’re at 9 Hall Street, right in the centre of Burnley. It’s a clean, proper studio, but it doesn’t feel like one of those places you’re nervous to walk into. Come in and see.

There’s no hierarchy here, no attitude, no making you feel like your idea isn’t cool enough. Everyone who comes through the door is treated the same way: with a bit of respect and a genuine effort to give them something they’ll be proud of.

Alongside the tattoo studio, Poppy runs a full beauty space, so if you need both, you can get both in one visit.
